This year, ten young journalists take a look at social injustices in Croatia.
With the thematic focus "Eastern Slavonia", the Goethe-Institut Croatia is developing a training program for young reporters and journalists. In a physical and virtual "newsroom" they form an independent Croatian "Redakcija" with the practical parts which committed authors need for their daily work and for better attention to the relevant social and economic issues in the country.
Last year, young journalists in Croatia dealt with the topic of "poverty". During six workshops, led by Barbara Matejčić, they shed some light on issues that are often overlooked in the mainstream media.
A series of workshops led by mentor Barbara Matejčić and a local journalist will take place this year. Barbara Matejčić is one of the most distinguished journalists in the country and has won numerous awards.
The focus of this year's workshop series is on the Eastern Slavonia area. The aim is to report on the situation in an ethical way and to give a voice to those who are usually overheard. In the workshops, ideas are worked on together, experiences are exchanged and discussions are held. First, there will be some online meetings, and at the end of September the journalists will take part in a multi-day face-to-face workshop in Vukovar, where they will work practically. In addition to the participants, the mentor Barbara Matejčić and guest speakers will be involved.
The results can be different media forms (written contributions for digital or print media/photo reports/video contributions/radio contributions/TV contributions, etc.). These will be published - in consultation with the journalists - on the various channels of the Goethe Institute.
