Abafa(ba)zi

The Goethe-Institut Kamerun invites you to the opening of the exhibition Abafa(ba)zi as part of the House of African Feminisms project on 06.03.2025 at 6.30pm at Annie Kadji Art Gallery, Bonapriso-Douala. The exhibition will be open from 07.03.2025 to 05.04.2025.

House of African Feminisms (HoAF) is a platform for feminist discourse, resources, and enlightenment, which showcases the works of various African feminist scholars, artists, and thinkers around the world. “Abafa(ba)zi” is a collaborative exhibition of new commissions, artistic experiments, and existing works by transdisciplinary women artists and researchers from the African continent. It is rooted in personal and familial narratives and connected to the womanism movement, underscoring the essential role of black women as shapers of everyday life and custodians of stories.

This touring exhibition presents works by female artists from Africa and the African diaspora working on African feminisms and different perspectives. It will serve as a platform for emerging and established artists, presenting their unique perspectives on themes such as gender, identity, culture and society. Through digital content and interactive elements, the exhibition aims to create an immersive experience that sparks dialogue and fosters understanding between diverse audiences.

Participating artists include Amanda Mushate (Zimbabwe), Piloya Irene (Uganda), Armel Mbouda (Congo), Wilfried Mbida (Cameroon), Laeila Adjovi (Benin), Lafalaise Dion (Côte d’Ivoire), Margaret Ngig (Kenya), Choral artists, Kayise K.
