1788: The poet Friedrich Schiller and two sisters from the Thuringian aristocracy have an unforgettable time together. The unhappily married Caroline von Beulwitz and her sister Charlotte von Lengefeld take their oath to share everything with each other seriously. They begin a "ménage à trois", which continues, under the guise of convention, even after Charlotte's marriage to Schiller. Such a way of life though proves to be tenuous. This private utopia is as difficult to be sustained as the political one taking place in the background at the time-the French Revolution.
