Within the framework of the Weeks of the German language the Goethe-Institut Cyprus is organizing film screenings at the two schools in Cyprus that are part of the global PASCH network, International School of Paphos (ISOP) and Heritage Private School in Limassol. Both films deal with the current as ever issues of racism and displacement, but through the eyes of children. When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is set in Germany in the early 1930s and Too Far Away in the late 2010s.  

The screening taking place at the ISOP is Too Far Away (2019), directed by Sarah Winkenstette. Twelve-year-old Ben and his family are forced to move to the next largest city, when his home village is to make way for a mine. He is an outsider at his new school and things aren’t going as well as he had hoped for in his new sports club. To make matters worse, he is not the only newcomer at the school. Eleven-year-old Tariq, a refugee from Syria, not only steals his thunder in class, but also scores points in the sports club. Will Ben stay on the sidelines – or does he have more in common with Tariq than he thinks? 

The screenings are open to the public.
