Sommerkino - Sandra Hüller Retrospective

Comedy-drama // 162 minutes // 2016

Despite all his endeavours, Winfried Conradi, a retired music teacher, suffers from loneliness. His daughter Ines, who is pursuing her career as a management consultant abroad, is the main source of his troubles. When Winfried's dog dies, he spontaneously travels to Bucharest to see Ines. But she is not very happy about her father, who immediately interferes in her life and her work, causing embarrassment in ridiculous disguises and, if necessary, acting as a cheeky impostor. The moving thing about this quirky father-daughter tragicomedy is that both sides are understandable in their behaviour at all times. The conciliatory aspect: the conflicts bring the two closer together.

"Toni Erdmann" is a critically acclaimed German-Austrian comedy-drama film that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. The movie mainly explores themes of familial relationships, personal identity, and the clash between career ambitions and personal connections.
