Film student Steffen Meyn rigs a 360 camera to his helmet and documents activists occupying Hambach Forest. They live in self-built tree houses to prevent the clearance of the ancient forest. Meyn’s documentation ends abruptly when, during a police eviction he falls from a tree, leading to his tragic death. Meyn’s friends and fellow students created this documentary using the footage recorded by him and conducting interviews with activists from “Hambi”. They share personal insights of the paradoxes and hardships of an activist’s life and deal with the ever-pressing question of how far activism should and needs to go.

There will be an introduction and a discussion after the screening with Klitos Papastylianou, environmental activist in Cyprus. The introduction and discussion will take place in English.

Klitos Papastylianou holds a BA in Political Science and History, and a MSc in Environmental Social Science. His studies and research have focused on the comparative study and analysis of social movements and civil society, with an interest in environmental movements, organisations, campaigns, and networks. During the past 20 years, he has had extensive professional experience in non-governmental organisations, as well as voluntary engagement with several informal citizens’ initiatives, active in the fields of nature conservation and environmental protection, human rights and social justice, as well as peace and reconciliation. He is currently the Environmental Policy Officer of Terra Cypria - The Cyprus Conservation Foundation. In 2018, he was awarded (Politico EU 28, Class of 2018 & Commonwealth Points of Light, Cyprus 2018) for his significant contribution in nature conservation and environmental protection campaigns in Cyprus.
