Film Residency
The Goethe-Institut Cairo offers three emerging filmmakers from Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen the opportunity to spend six weeks in the residency space “Weiße Villa” in the neighbourhood of Dokki in Cairo, Egypt. The residency provides a unique possibility to exchange with the Egyptian film scene and to develop film projects further.
Goethe-Film-Week
The Goethe Film Week takes place from September 16. 2024, until September 23. 2024, and presents a comprehensive program of recently released German and Arabic films. The residents will have access to the screenings as well as to the workshops, panel discussions and cultural events which will be organised.
El Gouna Film Festival
The 7th edition of El Gouna Film Festival will take place from October 24 till 1. November, 2024 in El Gouna. As part of the residency the Goethe-Institut organises a trip to El Gouna to visit the film Festival. El Gouna is located at the Red Sea close to Hurghada and around 450km south of Cairo.

- Opportunity to attend El Gouna Film Festival.
Date of Residency
The Residency takes place from September 15, 2024 – October 31, 2024.

- Why do you want to take part in this residency in Cairo?
- Is there a specific artist you would like to collaborate with?
- Why is this residency important in terms of supporting your work on the concept you submitted?
3. Max. 1 page concept note of the project you would like to explore during your residency.
4. Links to previous works (please add them in an attached file, not in the body of the email)
All applications will be reviewed by a jury who will select three artists for the residency program.

Selection Criteria
- Emerging filmmakers who have the nationality of or are based in Germany, Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, Tunisia, and Libya.
- Innovative and compelling artistic practice and body of work.
- Ability to work and communicate well in English.
- Willing and eager to have cultural exchange and share experiences.
- Commitment to the residency program in its entirety.
