Floating Forward

Environmental protection, waste management and sustainability are important pillars for the successful economic, social and ecological future of any country. At the same time, they are currently among Egypt's greatest challenges.

Environmental protection, waste management and sustainability are fundamental cornerstones for a prosperous economic, social and ecological future for Egypt. The Floating Forward project aims to increase environmental awareness and integrate the topic into educational discussions in Egypt.
In cooperation with the Egyptian environmental organization VeryNile and the Ministry of Education, training programs were developed for teachers and representatives of the Ministry of Education, and civil society structures were expanded through networking with local NGOs. Young people are actively participating in project activities and workshops to raise their awareness of environmental issues and their problem-solving skills. These activities, workshops, waste collection campaigns and exhibitions are taking place across eight different regions of Egypt along the Nile.
In the "boot camps," fishing boats are restored using recyclable plastic materials, specifically PVC sheets melted down from plastic lids. By doing so, the project bridges the gap between theory and practice.
To easily and effectively communicate the impact of pollution on the Nile and to promote environmental awareness, the project produced animated videos. These videos were also integrated into educational materials developed in collaboration with teachers. These animated videos tell the story of Nour and Abou El Nil.
