The project “Scientific Storytelling” – العلم حكاية – is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It aims at supporting science journalism in Egypt and other Arab countries, promoting it in the public eye, and counteracting the phenomenon of fake news.
Workshop and training project “Scientific Storytelling” 2020
The year 2020 saw a new instalment of the innovative workshop and training project “Scientific Storytelling”. The different event formats were again attended by actors of print and multimedia journalism, continuing to act on the growing importance of digital media.
“Exchange is extremely important” remarks Reem Magued, a well-known Egyptian journalist and former presenter at the Egyptian TV station ONTV. “Without it, scientists and journalists both believe that the other profession is responsible for the current status of journalism in Egypt today”, continues the current Manager of the ONA Academy.
Healing rifts and building bridges
A co-operation project of the Goethe-Institut Cairo and the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst e.V. (DAAD) [German Academic Exchange Service] to boost science journalism in Egypt aims to encourage more collaboration and exchange between journalists and scientists.
After the workshops, the journalists wrote articles or multimedia contributions. The winners of the best results will be honoured and given the opportunity to travel to Germany in April to get to know the field of science journalism in Germany.
The Scientific Storytelling project is a collaboration between the Goethe-Institut, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the ONA Academy. It is the continuation of the 2017 pilot project Writing about Science.
