Third Stage: Field Trip

The third stage, the project highlight, was a field trip to Bahir Dar and Lake Tana in April 2023. After the extensive use of virtual tools throughout the second stage of the project, the group were finally able to experiment with their cameras and exchange over one another’s narratives in person. Andy Spyra being on site, coaching and supporting the photographers through the creative process, was also equally important for the group of visual artists.

Following the crucial work in and around Bahir Dar, the group of photographers selected the images for their photo stories and photo series by June 2023. So as to showcase the fruits of the two year endeavor, a group photography exhibition was organized at the Modern Art Museum, Gebre Kristos Desta Centre on 11 January 2024, with the final outputs of the seven talented photographers published in this catalogue and on the Goethe-Institut Äthiopien website.
