Curator Jamila Adeli explored London’s museum landscape and the curational practices between Europe and die Middle East.

Jamila Adeli (Germany) is an art historian and freelance curator based in Berlin. She received her MA in Art History, Film Studies, and English Philology, specialising in the cultural contact zones of European and Non-European art.

From 2007 to 2008, she worked at the House of World Cultures, Berlin, in the department of Fine Art and New Media. During this time, she organised the exhibition and conference Re-Imagining Asia: A Thousand Years of Separation. From September 2008 until June 2009, she was the artistic director at the Gallery BodhiBerlin which focused predominantly on contemporary art from India. While at BodhiBerlin, she co-curated Eclectic Images and Images, Recollected with the Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art, who she continued to work with for the 59th International Film Festival Berlin.

During her London residency, Jamila Adeli undertook independent curatorial research, specifically engaging with artists in the UK who are connected to her geographical areas of focus: India, Pakistan and the Middle East. Alongside this, she gained insight into the museum practices in London in relation to their permanent ethnographical collections.
