Previously, Rahaf and Hassan used to have a nice life in the Syrian town of Homs. But then, the planes came more and more often and you had to be frightened all the time. So, the parents decided to leave for a different country. Rahaf and Hassan told Kirsten Boie how they travelled from Egypt to Italy on a boat that was way too small and how they went on to Germany, and Kirsten Boie retells their story to us. Also she tells of a ranting woman and a friendly train guard... and about Emma, who Rahaf befriends at school.
We publish this story in two languages, so that many refugee children can read it in their language. Additionally, a little phrase book at the end helps with learning German and Arabic. Jan Birck’s pictures accompany the text in an impressive and warm-hearted way.
A difficult and controversial topic, a comforting story, a lovely book.
