Marian Devons
Primary school teacher at Hillingdon Primary School, London
Hi, my name is Marian and I’m currently a primary school teacher at Hillingdon Primary School in London, which is part of the Elliot Foundation Academy Trust. After a degree in Russian and German and then a PGCE (primary), I was a primary class teacher for 20 years, teaching all KS2 year groups, leading History, the library, reading and Languages in various schools in Knowsley and Surrey. In September 2014, I moved into a 3-form entry primary school as the Specialist German Teacher, covering all the language teaching in KS2.
Since then, I have presented seminars at various conferences, including ALL Language World, Languages Live, Linguascope, Goethe Institut London (online), The ALL Southern Primary Languages Show and PHORUM (the online event from ALL for Primary languages teachers). I am especially enthusiastic about the use of authentic cultural artefacts and books to help teach key language points and to decolonise my curriculum, as well as singing, games and acting.
I am currently teaching German 3 days a week across 12 classes.
