With the help of the printmedia and audiovisual media housed in our library, we would like to draw your attention to current trends and topics of discussion in Germany. Our English language titles offer non German speakers with an interest in Germany the chance, to keep up with literature, culture, society, politics, and current affairs. Another main focus is our "German as a Foreign Language" collection.
You can find:

• German language literature and non-fiction books
• English translations of German literature
• English non-fiction books about Germany
• Materials for German as a Foreign Language
• Audiobooks and radio plays on CD
• Feature and documentary films on DVD

Our Library is accessible while the building is open but our colleagues will be on hand only during service hours.

Once a month, we have an Open Samstag (Open Saturday) with service, membership applications and guided tours of the Library.

Please note: Not all rooms in the library are accessible at all times.

The next Open Samstag will be on 30 November 2024 from 01 - 05 PM. 

On the 30th of November, the final event of the language courses will take place in the main room of the library from 2 pm on. The public is invited to attend.

On the 13th of November the main room of the library will be closed due to an event from 5pm on.

In order to borrow materials you will need a valid reader's card.
You can register online on our website. Please fill in this form beforehand, to enter the most important data for your registration and to confirm your email address in advance. Then come to the library during service hours within the following 7 days to complete the enrolment process. You will need to provide an official document which has your home address on it (driving licence, utility bill etc).
You can of course also fill in a printed form during our service hours. The library team will be happy to inform you during a personal visit.

Membership Fees

• 12 month:
  £30
• 12 Month concession (OAPs, German teachers, language assistants, students, school pupils, unemployed):
  £20
• Goethe-Institut Language Students:
  free

In our library you can use the Self-Checkout system for borrowing, returning and extending library materials.
Simply follow the instructions on the screen.
Please bear in mind, that during opening hours without personell, only the Self-Checkout system is available i.e. you can only borrow, extend and return. 
Enrolments, extensions of membership and the paying of fees can only be done during service hours. 
You can borrow up to a maximum of 10 books, 5 CDs, and 3 DVDs.  Reference works are not available for borrowing.
Library members are kindly asked to take care of the borrowed items, as they are liable for compensation in case of loss or damage.

The loan period for books, CDs and magazines is 4 weeks, the period for DVDs  2 weeks.

Overdue items incur a fine of 10p per day, per item. For overdue DVDs there is a charge of 20p per DVD per day.

The loan period may be extended up to 4 times as long as the material has not been reserved. Renewal of loans can be made via the self checkout system, the online catalogue or by contacting the library issue desk during service hours.
