Hey, my name is Julia and I'm from Germany, where I'm studying Journalism and Economics in Mainz. After spending a semester abroad in France at the end of last year, I wanted to immerse myself in the working world. That's why I'm currently doing an internship in the Information and Library Department at the Goethe-Institut (GI) in London.
For my Bachelor's degree, I'm studying different areas of journalism, public relations and politics, as well as a lot of communication research and applied research. Since my course is so broad, I have a lot of possible avenues to venture down work-wise. The Goethe-Institut seemed to combine many of these areas for people interested in media. For example, as part of my studies, I'm also looking at the impact of media on users and how people engage with content. With these theories in mind, I find it very interesting to observe the GI's activities and online presence.
I haven't worked in social media and public relations before but I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge. I hope that my internship will give me a better insight into the different ways of working in the cultural sector. I'm very excited to see what's in store for me and will report back!
