Professional development in Germany

Our courses take place at various Goethe-Institut locations around Germany between June and August 2024. Depending on your professional requirements you can choose from one of the following options:

• Further language training - available for both primary and secondary teachers;
• “Landeskunde” (cultural and regional studies) seminars – suitable for all teachers;
• Further training in methodology and didactics – catering to those who would like to refresh their knowledge;
• Online advanced training in methodology and didactics – for those who are not able to travel to Germany;
• Further training for German tutors – designed for those who train German language teachers.

Detailed Course Descriptions

The courses last between 1 and 3 weeks. They provide teachers with a variety of materials for the classroom and enable them to develop topic-specific projects with their students at school.

The grant covers accommodation with breakfast, lunch on course days, course costs as well as health, accident and liability insurance. Travel expenses are not covered by the grant.

Only teachers who do not apply for a grant book online.
 

Application requirements

• You are a teacher of German as a foreign language (DaF=Deutsch als Fremdsprache) or are involved in the teacher training of such teachers; this also applies if you work at a PASCH school.
• You will be working as a DaF teacher or a trainer of DaF teachers in the coming years.
• You are willing to pass on what you learn in the seminar to your colleagues at home.
• You have the necessary prior German-language skills for the type of seminar you wish to attend.
• You are prepared to take part in the entire seminar, including the cultural program.
• You can state that you are available for the dates of all of the desired seminars you indicate.
• You confirm that you have been informed and understand that it is generally not possible to prioritize your three desired seminars.
• You acknowledge that participants are strongly advised against bringing family members and friends to the seminar, as participants are expected to be fully committed to the seminar. In such cases, the Goethe-Institut will not provide any organizational assistance or help with insurance matters.
• You acknowledge that we advise against participating in a seminar during a pregnancy to avoid the risk of complications for which no insurance coverage is available.
• You acknowledge that you are not permitted to bring pets with you.

You can apply for a scholarship if you ...

• have not received a scholarship from the Goethe-Institut within the last 4 years
• will be working as a teacher or teacher trainer in the next few years.
• are prepared to pass on your experience of the course to other colleagues

The courses offer practice in all language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Language instruction is in German and follows the communicative approach. Participants are offered a placement test and are assigned to the most suitable course.

Courses in Germany

Participants who want to apply for the grant should follow the application steps.
Only teachers who do not apply for a grant book online.

Tuition fees, course materials, accommodation and half-board on course days are covered. Travel costs are not included.

Teachers who plan to continue teaching for a number of years and who have not received a grant from the German Government for a while.

Priority is given to:Primary school teachers
Teachers who intend to introduce German in their schools
Teachers who already teach German, but intend to teach German at a different level/age group
