Growing a Tree
By Pallavi Paul
This talk invites you to grow a Peepal tree and hear a little story about how it helped a young trainee of the Delhi Police solve an abduction case in 1976.
It moves between Bodhgaya and Possangipur. It also moves between awakening and abduction. A majestic shadow, a dead stump, a sapling, a terrifying apparition, guillotine, an oxygen machine and an ageing mystic - historically the Peepal has been a shape shifter.
Clues are scattered across 2500 years and yet everything can fall into place in a fraction of a second. Whether the Peepal we grow, will be a witness or a conjecture remains to be seen.
