Micheal D. Chand Thakuri was born in August 1950 in far -western Nepal. He worked with Radio Nepal as News Editor and Broadcaster and with Radio Deutsche Welle in Cologne, Germany. He learnt German in Munich University and shortly after, started German language teaching at Goethe Institut Kathmandu (1982- 1997), later he became the Director of Goethe Zentrum Kathmandu for 15 years, till he retired in 2015. Michael has worked extensively on translations in German, English and Nepali and also works as an interpreter for the German Embassy in Kathmandu. He was awarded the ‘Bundesverdienstkreuz’ by the then President of Germany, Dr. Horst Köhler in 2008 for promoting German language in Nepal.
