We promote cultural exchange, education and social discourse

We foster bilateral cultural exchange programs between Germany and Kenia. We initiate film series, exhibitions, concerts, seminars and festivals, always with the goal to facilitate artistic production, reception and reflection involving actors from both countries.

Populism

This Side of Populism

In global conversations between Budapest, Cairo, Brasilia, Nairobi, Moscow, Salzburg and Zurich we debate common narratives of populists in different countries: Has the “elite” really lost contact with the “people”? What does it really mean to take people’s fears seriously? What is hidden behind the phrase “You still have to be allowed to say that”?

Music festivals in Germany

Where the wild tunes are

Spending a whole weekend with friends in the countryside, living in a tent, partying late into the night and listening to non-stop music, live or played by a DJ: Music festivals in Germany are an integral part of the cultural landscape and, for many Germans, are among the most enjoyable activities of the year. Here we’ll present a few of them acoustically and in pictures.

Sustainability

Sustainability in Kenya

"You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them. It's the little things citizens do. That's what will make the difference. My little thing is planting trees." - Wangari Maathai (Nobel Peace Prize, 2004).
In the subsequent articles, the Goethe-Institut Kenya explores the current state of environmentalism in Kenya.
