René Pollesch was one of the most renowned contemporary playwrights in the German-speaking theater scene. He was the director of the Berlin Volksbühne until his sudden death in 2024. His work was known for its rapid pace and the combination of different media.

In our upcoming lecture, Professor Hyongjin Im will explore how Pollesch's “wild” staging process and work have influenced post-dramatic theater in the German-speaking world. Professor Im completed his doctorate in philosophy with a focus on theater studies at Freie Universität Berlin and won the Young Critics Award at the 5th Seoul International Performing Arts Festival. He currently directs the theater group “Theaterraum” and teaches as a theater professor at the College of Arts at Sangmyung University.

The lecture is part of the interdisciplinary series “Insider Tip: Kunst” which introduces renowned German artists and cultural practitioners who are less well-known in Korea. The event will be taking place on April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Goethe-Institut Korea hall. A second event focusing on contemporary dance will be held on May 7. Further dates are scheduled for June 5 and 19, 2024. The lecture will be held in Korean exclusively.

The Series “Insider Tip: Kunst” is organized by the Goethe-Institut Korea in cooperation with Jan Creutzenberg.
