AIR Application 2025
 Submission Period: 25 March – 25 May 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering artistic exchange with Borneo, this year’s AIR Exchange Programme is exclusively open to visual artists who are originally from Sarawak. While we prioritize artists who are currently practicing in Sarawak, we also welcome applications from Sarawakian artists based in other Malaysian states.

The Programme
The 3-month residency is designed for emerging visual artists who live and work in Malaysia. Proficiency in English is an additional requirement.

The Residency
Residency Period in Frankfurt, Germany: October – December 2025. The selected artist will receive:
  • Fully covered international economy flight costs (Malaysia – Germany)
  • Travel Insurance
  • Accommodation at Basis Frankfurt
  • Studio space for the duration of the residency
  • A monthly grant of €1,000
The selection process
An independent jury in Malaysia will shortlist up to five candidates, who will then be nominated for consideration by the partner city, Frankfurt. The final selection will be made by the jury in Frankfurt, which will invite the most suitable candidate to participate in the residency program.

Malaysian artists can apply for the AIR program by submitting:

  • this online application form
  • a letter of motivation with date and signature
  • artist Bio and CV
  • digitalized work samples and a description of site-specific projects
