The cultural society in Malaysia has its own individual programme and priority. In most cases they operate cultural or language centres offering activities to promote the German language and culture. These activities vary, depending on their objectives and priorities.

- German courses
- projects offering information on Germany
- personal contacts in Germany
Unlike the Goethe Institutes, German cultural societies abroad are not German institutions. They are established in the country where they operate.
Like the Goethe-Institut, they work in accordance with the principles of foreign cultural and educational policy. They work intensively with the Goethe Institutes in a spirit of trust and cooperation, but without contractual arrangements. Through the Goethe Institute
they receive a substantial annual budget subsidy from German public funds.
