Created by German choreographer Isabelle Schad, winner of the 2019 German Dance Prize.

Performed by dancers from Europe and Southeast Asia.

Isabelle Schad’s  performative dance exhibition INSIDE OUT shows choreographic sculptures that are experienced in their powerfully sensuous moving forms. Her work situates itself between dance and visual art, draws on her ongoing fascination with Aikido-Zen and community building. With subtle exactness, the performers form bodies and material such as clothing, lengths of fabric and movement into sculptures which define their own space and evolve a contemplative quality.

 Dancer and choreographer Isabelle Schad studied classical dance in Stuttgart and worked with numerous choreographers before she began developing her own projects in 1999. Her research focuses on the body and its materiality, explores the relationships between body, choreography, (re)presentation, form and experience and regards physical practice as a place for learning processes, community and political participation. Her projects take place at the interface of dance, performance and visual arts and are shown at festivals, in theatres and museums worldwide, including La Biennale di Venezia –Danza 2016, ImPulsTanz Wien, the Dance in August festival in Berlin, the International Arts Festival Beijing, Moving in November in Helsinki and many more. Amongst other prizes, Isabelle Schad won the German Dance Prize 2019. For many years, she has been teaching modules for the BA and MA programmes at the HZT in Berlin and for MA programmes in Cologne, Helsinki and Stockholm.
