Curating in Africa; Creating spaces
The Curator is not bound to function within the space of an institution. Historically, the Western model talks of the curator as linked to an institution, collection and white cube – the gallery or exhibition space. Today, however, we see the curator has a more fluid role and can function outside the rigid constructs of an institution.
This discussion with curators from Namibia, South Africa and Nigeria who are facilitators of the Curatorship Bootcamp 2019, will aim to unpack the concept of curating outside an institution to create spaces and possibilities for aspiring curators.
