We invite you to come to our film screening of 'Love, Deutschmarks and Death'. The film is part of the KinoFest 2023.

Director: Cem Kaya
2022, 102 minutes

Over 60 years after the first arrival of Turkish workers in Germany, director Cem Kaya lets early immigrants tell their stories. Concurrently, he showcases the diversity of German xenophobia through archival TV footage from that era. However, the film's unique approach focuses on the music of exile. This creates, on one hand, a sub-story of the proletarian Federal Republic, seen from the perspective of immigrants. On the other hand, Kaya explores a cultural phenomenon. Through concert excerpts, interviews, and fascinating archival images, he documents Turkish music in Germany, tracing its journey from its origins as entertainment during homeland gatherings to its place in contemporary pop culture.
