Palestine has a rich history in textile and leather production. Together with Fashion Revolution Germany, we wanted to highlight the potential and showcase the scalability of responsibly-made-in-Palestine items for international markets.

Palestinian Textile Producers

Textile and fashion manufacturing in Palestine is the second-largest employer. The industry is made up of hundreds of small businesses, often operated out of people’s homes. With Europe looking for near-shoring options, there is a chance to establish responsible and high-quality production in Palestine. A lot of local production units are looking to become certified organic and by that getting ready for international clients and orders.

Together with Fashion Revolution Germany, we wanted to show how meaningful this can be for the region and individuals.

In September 2022 Celine Aweidah and Tamara Hazou visited a number of well established and key relevant production facilities around the West Bank. Some of these businesses are running for more than 20 years, providing high quality services of printing, cut & sew or embroideries. The impact of textile orders and opening the local economy up to clients, asides from what is happening now, could be immense.

Palestine has a long history when it comes to textiles and working with the manufacturing of leather goods or embroideries. Between 2007 and 2011 Palestine exported textiles and apparel worth an average of US$12.8 million each year. 98.4% of this traveled to Israel. The recent international and political changes have made a more competitive and difficult for Palestinian textile businesses to grow and explore more diverse markets to expand to.
