Join us on a journey through the mind of Wim Wenders, the multi-faceted artist and longtime festival darling, New German Cinema OG, and all-around master of the road movie genre, as we bring back some of his classics to celebrate the release of his newly acclaimed feature, Perfect Days.
Like many of his protagonists, Wim Wenders himself is traveller whose complex work—whether feature film or documentary—speaks to us of searching and seeing. We'll traverse desolate landscapes in the hopelessly romantic neo-western Paris, Texas, road trip across Europe and America with childlike wonder in the charming Alice in the Cities, and soar above Berlin with trenchcoat-clad angels who yearn for human connection in the timeless classic Wings of Desire. The showcase also gives us a taste of thrill in The American Friend, a moody neo-noir based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel "Ripley's Game". And finally, the feature film Perfect Days, his latest award-sweeping marvel and beautiful offering to life, told through the eyes of Hirayama, a toilet cleaner in Tokyo.
Joyride through the timeless works of one of Europe’s most prolific and pertinent auteurs, with a cast of dreamers and drifters in search, as they meander through the highs, lows, and utter mundanity of their own winding roads.
