Impulse Lectures

In order to further promote discourse within the project, impulse lectures on fake news and discussions on the use and possibilities of social media and online content were held throughout 2023.

The first impulse lecture was held jointly by the Sikka editorial team and Art Lab Magazine on the 22nd of March 2023 at the Omdurman Culture Centre. The topic of the impulse lecture was "Creating a Short Narrative Film in the Context of Fake News", with guest speaker Algaddal Hassan, founder of Art Lab Magazine. The talk was moderated by Nashwa Siraj Eldin, a member of the Sikka editorial team, and introduced the online platform and its content to the 32 participants.

Due to the outbreak of war on 15 April, the following impulse sessions had to be held online via Zoom. The second impulse took place on 5-6 December, this time on radio and fake news. The impulse session was attended by over 40 people from different groups of civil society members, cultural practitioners and media actors in the diaspora. The sessions provided an insightful exploration of the broadcasting sector and the critical issue of fake news. The workshop was skillfully facilitated by Nibras Elhady, an experienced expert in the field of radio, journalism and fake news.

The third impulse session was held on 15 December 2023 on the topic of filmmaking. The impulse session featured a keynote presentation by expert Algadaal Hassan, a well-known figure in the field of filmmaking. The keynote focused on the complex aspects of filmmaking, highlighting the topics of scriptwriting, directing and various techniques that are essential to creating a compelling film. The keynote attracted a diverse audience, ranging from emerging filmmakers to enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in the world of cinematic storytelling. In addition to the content of the workshop, networking opportunities were created for the 40 or so participants.
