Samir Rahamtalla demonstrates the diversity of Sudanese society and connects cultural education for young and old in an interactive picture book.

Cucurucu is the name of the latest work by graphic designer Samir Rahamtallah, who has managed to reflect the different cultures of Sudan with ease. His comic book tells the stories of five families and their ways of life in very different parts of the country. The educational project, which is aimed at children between the ages of three and five, combines multimedia elements such as traditional music played via QR codes and augmented reality games that can be accessed via applications. The aim of these modern techniques is to both arouse the children’s curiosity and encourage them to explore their origins and the cultures of Sudan. In addition, digitally readable excerpts are combined that reflect the various local dialects of Sudan.

This project also felt the effects of the pandemic. Due to quarantine measures, meetings and phases of production by the writer, painter and the game design team could not take place as planned. Despite everything, the author Samir is convinced that they have benefited from the quarantine period by developing and revising the story itself and the characters to meet the needs of the children and to make the content more exciting and engaging for all family members. For the project aims in particular to familiarise children and parents in and outside of Sudan with the different cultures of their country.
