In response to the current situation, the Production Fund 2024 aims to create new spaces for art, culture and discourse in Sudan and beyond. 7 projects by selected artists were awarded financial support for their projects that stimulates social discourse around this year's theme “Beyond Transformation - Reclaiming Narratives”. The goal of these projects is to empower Sudanese people to reclaim control over their own stories, shaping both individual and collective identities. This powerful act of resistance and transformation holds the potential to build and reshape an inclusive and equitable Sudan.
Winners
Alaa ‘Metche’ Jaafar
Alaa is a visual artist and storyteller from Khartoum, with a deep passion for folklore, art, and culture. Through photography and storytelling, she intricately weaves narratives that preserve Sudan’s history and heritage, offering profound insights into emotions, ideas, and lived experiences. Her project, "The People's Manifesto", gathers diverse stories of resistance, creating an archive that reflects collective strength. The project includes workshops and training sessions to equip participants with new skills to tell visual stories and express themselves
creatively. Through this process, participants perceive themselves as part of an empowered collective Their productions will be compiled into a photo book and showcased in an exhibition, likely at the end of 2024.
The Muse Multi-Studios (Reem Aljealy)
“The Muse multi studios” founded by curator and visual artist Reem Aljealy in 2019, is a regional artistic organization committed to making art accessible to all. It promotes artistic practices, provides creative spaces, and develops collaborative projects that reflect various cultural and social contexts with other institutions and individuals interested in cultural work.
As part of Transforming Sudan project, The Muse presents the exhibition “Extended Cities”, which focuses on Khartum, Port-Sudan und Kairo. This intersectional artistic residency project invites artists affected by the war in Sudan to share their experiencesand explore how these cities have transformed as a result of the conflict in Sudan.
Waggas Alsadig
Waqas is a storyteller and novelist, konwn for his short story collections: A Water-Colored Presence (2015) published by Dar "Papers" in Egypt, and The Book of Expectations (2023) published by Dar "Nartiqa" in Sudan in 2023. He has contributed to numerous artistic collaborations, including journalistic writing, and screenwriting.
His project “The Days of Stealing Shailat” novel, offers a fresh perspective on Sudan’s modern history by uncovering forgotten stories of villages. Through a critical lens, Wagas examines social-cooperative systems such as schools, water and electricity plants and agricultural infrastructure, enriching the understanding of life in Sudan through regained narratives.
Seiza Sorkati
Seiza is an actress and dancer who graduated from the Faculty of Music and Drama, Theater Department. Since beginning her career,she has participated in many prominent plays such as "Government Trombone", "Laban al-A'shar", "Safar Aljafa", "Death of Zeus", "Accounting Notebook", "Return of Kush", "Sea of Time", "Fatima al-Samha", and "Nun al-Fajwa", as well as the two films "Black Henna" and "Haha Al-Kilab”.
Her passions lies in expressive dance and children's theater. Her project “Habooba, Wanisini”, is an animated visual arts series in collaboration with scriptwriters, educators, and animation experts. The series, designed for children aged 4 to 11, featuresa grandmother as the central character, drawing inspiration from Sudanese storytelling traditions. Five episodes will be produced and shared on social media and the Sudanese TV station ‘Sanabil’.
Imadeldein Mohyeldein
Imadeldein, also konwn as “Imad Bubbo”, is a multi-talented musician, music teacher, and producer.
He graduated with a first-class degree in music degree from degree from the SUST Music College In 2002. In 2013, he completed a leadership program in New York, specializing in hip-hop and civic engagement.
He further enhanced his skills by completing an audio production course for pictures at SAE Dubai in 2016. Imadeldein has founded several bands, such as “Magic Music Band” and “Sudanese Band”.
In 2018, he launched the project „249music“. His production experience extends to Maryud 103 FM radio, where he served as a music producer until April 15, 2023. Alongside his performances, Imad shares his expertise as a music teacher. His musical production project “Reclaiming Harmony, Voices from the Future” is aimed at Sudanese children, allowing them to voice their hopes and dreams through collective music composition. This composition reclaims narratives of hope, peace, and unity. The musical composition harmonizes Sudan’s rich cultural heritage, incorporating rhythms and sounds from various regions. This musical endeavor underscores the transformative power of storytelling and collective action, inspiring positive change and fostering a more inclusive future for all Sudanese citizens.
Ahmed Al-Mustafa
Ahmed is a director, actor and screenwriter with an experience of producing drama for Sudanese
channels such as Blue Nile Channel, Al-Shorouk, Sudania 24, Sudanese National Television
and YouTube. In addition to his experiences in film and theatre, Ahmed is involved in the research,
production and development of dramatic, cinematic, and documentary projects, as well as
creative advertising concepts and creative literary writing. HIs film project, “Al-Moshakhasati and Sardiyat Al-kalloos”, documents the experiences of Sudanese refugees, capturing their stories through vivid imagery and evocative scenes
Mojtaba Abbas Mohammed
Mojtaba, known as "Ninja249", is a Sudanese music producer specializing in the production of hip-hop music. With an audio album named “Shaabiyat”. Mojtaba’s music combines folkloric elements with contemporary sounds such as trap, Afro-Zanq, and Dalouka. He has collaborated with many artists and rappers across the Arab region. His project, “Echoes of December”, documents and showcases over 30 revolutionary slogans and expressions from both the revolutionaries and the government. The audio “archive” conserves the history of the revolutionary influence, the sacrifices made, and the poignant
moments experienced by the people and the revolutionaries. It takes the listener through numerous significant revolutionary milestones deeply etched into the memory of every Sudanese.
Jury
Zuhair Hassan Ahmed
Zuhair has over 17 years of professional experience in television production and directing, having worked with Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, international broadcasters and organizations such as the European Union and UNICEF. He aslo taught as a professor at the University of Sudan and Garden City University. Zuhair also worked as an art director for independent production companies. Currently pursuing film studies, Zuhair previously studied at the Faculty of Music and Theater and the Faculty of Media at the University of Sudan. He also obtained a professional diploma in video production from MMU University in Malaysia.
Andrea Thal
Andrea has been the Artistic Director of the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC) in Cairo since late 2014, curating exhibitions and educational programs. She is also the curator of Finding Our Feet, the 2023/24 cycle of Sommerakademie Paul Klee, an arts education
program in Bern, Switzerland. Previously, she managed the self-organized space “Les Complices” in Zurich and has taught in various art education settings.
Khalid Ali
Khalid is a distinguished business leader with over two decades of experience in management consulting, having collaborated with Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized enterprises, and startups across the United States, Africa, and the Middle East. As the Executive Director of the European Chamber of Commerce in Sudan, Khalid has successfully established and led a platform for business development and research, fostering trade between European and Sudanese companies. He is also a co-founder of Impact Hub Khartoum, an innovation hub supporting social enterprises, where he led programming and business development teams, organizing numerous art exhibitions, cultural workshops, and talks. A regular speaker at conferences, Khalid is actively contributes to various think tanks and cultural hubs. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from The Future University in Khartoum and a master’s degree in management information systems from Florida International University in Miami, USA.
