Mark Rothko's paintings are not just a series of blurred rectangles but, rather, each features layered and often subtly contrasting colours. By painting in a similar way, new, novel shapes emerged after the paint dried. These unique and varied new forms were then used as the components of this mobile, providing a layered and brushed-line effect.
