Palermo Shooting is a work of Wim Wenders, written and directed in 2008, the first movie to be shot at his hometown Düsseldorf.

Palermo Shooting depicts the story of a middle-aged man who has led a good life and a successful career, yet everything has not turned out as it seemed. His suffering from mental instability grew into anxiety that later gave birth to fear, triggered by a small childhood trauma, a series of repeated nightmares and the changing point where the digital gradually and irretrievably replaces the slow-paced world of manual camera. He travels to Palermo, a town in Italy with a hope to temporarily escape from life. Little does he know, something that will forever change his life is there awaiting his encounter.

The reason why Vacilando chose this film is due to its well achievement of storytelling through photograph. Palermo Shooting is one of the films that explore the principal philosophy of photograph while presenting it in the most interesting manner. Photograph, painting and camera that appear throughout the film form more-or-less other characters that contribute greatly to the storyline. For those who love and are curious about the art of photography, Palermo Shooting is a must-watch as it provides more than the beauty of photos as it dives deep into the meanings and the impact of the photograph’s existence.
