This year’s Frankfurt Book Fair was meant to have been the highlight of cultural exchange between Canada and Germany so far. Now the physical fair has been cancelled, a virtual fair is taking its place. Our author Andreas Platthaus writes about a slightly different book fair.

Germany has a lot to offer lovers of fine ceramics, such as the Meissen Manufactory, the Keramion Museum and Leuchtenburg Castle’s world of porcelain. None has quite the magical appeal of a small workshop in Cismar on the Baltic Sea though.
 

The cities of Leipzig and Bonn both had large classical music festivals in the works for 2020. But silence has settled with the outbreak of the corona pandemic and all the musical highlights, big and small, will have to find a new home on the net.

The Old Master Picture Gallery in the Dresden Zwinger, the palace that serves as an art museum, is celebrating its reopening – and thrilling visitors with a skillful surprise: the exhibition has been rearranged, allowing for a new perspective on its well-known masterpieces.

Two exhibitions on classical masters are running simultaneously in Frankfurt and Cologne: “Inside Rembrandt” and “Making Van Gogh” provide exciting insights into the history of art and how great artists emerge. In addition to some of the two painters’ best-known works, the exhibitions also feature many unknown pieces from each artist’s circle.
