Director: Oliver Haffner, color, 102 min., 2012-14

The actress Anna unexpectedly loses her job at a small German theatre. She can't expect much help from the local employment agency – however, there is one administrator at the agency who is enthusiastic about theatre. Anna takes on the job of teaching drama to eight long-term unemployed people. Initially, none of them are particularly enthusiastic about it, nor are they exalted about the drama “Antigone”, which Anna wants to rehearse with them. But then the sceptical and difficult individuals manage to draw together and form a collective after all, filling all of them with new hope. A GODSEND is a tragicomedy, where the stage is the setting for a collective restoration of the self-respect lost by each of the individuals.

Oliver Haffner was born in Germersheim in 1974. He studied Political Science in Munich, Theatre Directing at the Max-Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and at the University of Television and Film (HFF) in Munich. He won the Audience Prize and the Director’s Promotional Award for Best Production at the Munich International Film Festival for his film A GODSEND.
