The Fairy-Queen (1692) is a masque or semi-opera by Henry Purcell; a "Restoration spectacular". The libretto is an anonymous adaptation of William Shakespeare's comedy
A Midsummer Night's Dream. Purcell did not set any of Shakespeare's text to music; instead he composed music for short masques in every act but the first. The concert continues with two works by Georg Friedrich Händel:
Music for the Royal Fireworks, HWV 351, a suite for wind instruments, and
Apollo e Dafne, HWV 122, a secular cantata composed in 1709–10.
