Goethe Pop Up Seattle is excited to partner with the National Nordic Museum to screen Anna Sofie Hartmann’s Giraffe as part of the 13th Annual Nordic Lights Film Festival! The Nordic Lights Film Festival is devoted to celebrating Nordic cinema—this year virtually.

Last year, we streamed Giraffe as part of our monthly film series. Now, we’re presenting the film to highlight Danish-German cinema and director Anna Sofie Hartmann’s visit to Seattle in March, when we will celebrate the opening of her exhibition, I wish I could tell you how I feel, at Goethe Pop Up Seattle and a special screening of LIMBO, her 2014 feature film.

The screening of Giraffe will take place online. The film stream is available February 25 at 12:00am PT to March 5 at 11:59pm PT. Purchase an individual ticket to the film or register for a festival pass to watch all of Nordic Lights’ offerings! Nordic National Museum members receive discounts on tickets and passes.

Giraffe
Dir. Anna Sofie Hartmann
Germany, Denmark | 2019 | 87 minutes

A tunnel will be built to connect Denmark and Germany, the present sets in motion towards the future, change hangs in the air. Dara, an ethnologist, arrives to document the houses tagged for demolition. Lucek, a young Polish man and his colleagues, prepare the future construction site. Käthe works on the ferry, steadily moving people, their stories, and goods to and fro. Birte and Leif leave their house passed on for generations. Agnes’s life resounds inside her diaries, collectibles and walls of her house being prepared for demolition. A Danish summer: long days turn into blue nights. People meet and part ways again.
