At the April German Book Club meeting, we will discuss
Hans Pleschinski's Königsallee (CH Beck, 2013. Paperback edition from dtv with the ISBN: 9783423144162. 9,90 €).
In the summer of 1954, Thomas Mann travels from Switzerland to Düsseldorf to read from
Felix Krull. Klaus Heuser, who would become one of Mann’s great loves and also inspiration for the figure of Joseph, had descended upon the same hotel, the Breidenbacher Hof. The encounter stirs up unrest for the two men on top of the furor already created by the visit of the once exiled writer to postwar Germany. Colorful and restrained, lively and knowledgeable, atmospheric and unforgettable, such are the figures created by Hans Pleschinski in this great novel full of love, responsibility and literature – and the 1950s in Germany.
