Enemy Territory – Fritz Bauer & Postwar Germany
May 11-June 1, 2016
Every Wednesday, 6:30pm
Operating in almost complete isolation within a judicial apparatus still pervaded by Nazis more than a decade after the end of the war, Fritz Bauer (1903-1968) tracked down Holocaust enablers across the globe and brought them to trial. This film series pays tribute to the Jewish state attorney who returned from exile to free West German society from the demons of its recent past.
All film screenings are in German with English subtitles and take place at the Goethe-Institut, 30 Irving Place.
In addition to the films listed below, Lars Kraume's The People vs. Fritz Bauer (2015) is presented as part of Panorama Europe 2016 and screened at the Museum of Moving Image, 36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria, on May 15, 4:30pm.
