Internationalisation – A Strategic Approach

Giới thiệu sự kiện

Modern Universities are transnational actors. In all dimensions of their work and business, they must perceive themselves as creative parts of a world higher education system. Only an internationalised university will be able to meet societal expectations, actively shape the globalisation process and guarantee its own competitiveness.

Both, Vietnamese universities and the Vietnamese Government do fully subscribe to this hypothesis. They fully understand that internationalization is key for them to strategically develop, attract excellent students, forge partnerships and networks, build up capacities, engage in international research and innovation. However, a holistic approach to internationalisation, integrating all these aspects into a coherent internationalisation strategy, has oftentimes not been fully developed. In many cases, the institutional focus lies on student mobility, accompanied by inviting international lecturers and organising conferences with international participation. Approaches to internationalisation hence exist side by side and do not always strategically interlock.

This workshop is to provide a brief glimpse into approaching internationalisation of universities in a more strategic manner. This workshop aims to a) reflect experiences and assessments from Germany b) give participants the opportunity to compare and reflect on their own institutional positions – also against the background of the current Vietnamese discussions.

It is organized hosted by the Regional Office Hanoi of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the DAAD Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi). KIWi supports German universities and research organisations in initiating, implementing and intensifying their international activities. It offers individual advice, networked expertise and targeted support for navigating the field of international scientific collaboration and foreign academic policy.
