Sechaba Lengane - The Coal

‘The coal’ is an online video web series of between 10 to 15-minute episodes. It features two-person, intergenerational conversations between South African family members over a meal. Examples of these include conversations between father figures and their sons, mother figures and their daughters, or grandparents and their grandchildren.

The series intends to highlight the universal role food plays in bringing people together, whilst also promoting the need for more meaningful conversation at the family table. The conversations are guided by cue cards with leading questions placed on the table for guests to read.
