Virtual Tour of Germany

Online

The journey continues and moves further east to the centrally located state of Saxony-Anhalt with its state capital Magdeburg. Saxony-Anhalt is one of the new federal states that finally became part of the Federal Republic of Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Saxony-Anhalt has five UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Bauhaus, the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom, the Luther memorials in Eisleben and Wittenberg, the old town of Quedlinburg and Naumburg Cathedral. The country is home to a variety of castles, palaces and churches as well as other valuable cultural monuments. With several universities and research institutions, Halle and Magdeburg are scientific centres.

The region between Halle and Leipzig, which is located in Saxony, is an economic focus region that particularly benefits from good transport accessibility. Traditionally, the area with the "Chemical Triangle" is a focal point of the chemical and petroleum industries in Germany. In recent years, Leuna in particular has seen the largest foreign investments in all of eastern Germany. The region north and west of Magdeburg, with its favourable location between Berlin and Hanover as well as the waterway junction, has also increasingly become a focus for investment and settlement.

The most important locations with employment subject to social security contributions are Magdeburg, Halle, Dessau-Roßlau, Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Stendal and others.

The largest sectors of the economy are still made up of the food industry, lignite mining, mechanical engineering and metalworking, mineral and chemical industries, the pharmaceutical industry, the automotive industry, but also new technologies such as photovoltaics and e-commerce.

All in all, Saxony-Anhalt has a lot to offer, both geographically and scenically as well as in terms of work perspective.
