The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg is looking for a project coordinator, working in the Department of Culture & Development at the Johannesburg office from 1st of October 2024. The contract is part-time for 20 hours a week and limited to a 2-year contract that could be extended. The salary is based on the applicable remuneration scheme of the Goethe-Institut South Africa.

We convey a comprehensive picture of Germany by providing information on Germany's cultural, social and political life. The Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg regulates the work in the Sub-Saharan countries. Its activities in this region have a special focus on strengthening the pan-African dialogue, and on promoting mobile access to information and education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • conceptualisation, implementation and monitoring of specific cultural and educational programmes, including monitoring of prescribed project budgets according to Goethe-Institut guidelines,
  • coordination of public relations in the content of the respective projects
  • establish a network and communication with local partners,
  • prepare, write and submit reports in PPS monitoring system and to management (financial and narrative)
  • handling administrative procedures in the department of Culture & Development: establishing contracts and procurement notes, preparing financial processing (invoices)
Requirements
  • Cultural studies, cultural project management degree OR Minimum of four (4) years relevant working experience
  • Experience working on large-scale cultural and educational programmes,
  • Good knowledge of the cultural scenes and creative industry of South Africa
  • Experience in administration, especially of cultural projects
  • Knowledge of cultural scenes and cultural and social discourses on the African continent (and Germany) are an advantage.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent written skills in English are necessary, being able to speak German is a major advantage
  • Strong project management, coordination, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure and willingness to travel.
  • Flawless attention to detail
  • Presence at the office space provided at the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg is required.
  • Non-South African applicants need to have a valid work permit for South Africa
