About the Artist

​​Dolorosa Sinaga makes art for justice. She studied sculpture at the Lembaga Pendidikan Kesenian Jakarta (Arts Education Institute, which has since become IKJ) and has developed her works as a means to express solidarity with others and engage with matters of human rights in Indonesia throughout the period of 1965 to 1998. Apart from working as an artist, she also teaches at IJK. She is the Dean of Visual Arts and has designed the subject “Art and Activism”. She currently holds the position of Director of the Jakarta Biennale 2021 and is active in various human rights campaigns.
