Eleven-year-old Linh and her little sister Tien are suddenly left on their own when their mother has to go to Vietnam to take care of their sick grandmother. But no one is allowed to know - especially not the youth welfare office. Linh is now not only responsible for Tien, but also has to take care of the household and her mother's Vietnamese snack bar in addition to school. But self-proclaimed spy Pauline from the apartment block across the street discovers the secret and threatens to betray the two girls. The initial blackmail soon grows into a friendship, but one that is repeatedly put to the test. Because the police and Mrs. Trost from the Youth Welfare Office are also close to finding out about the secret...
