When Thomas Gnielka, a journalist for the Frankfurter Rundschau, shows up at the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office with Auschwitz survivor Simon Kirsch, none of the officials want to take on the case: Simon Kirsch recognized a former member of the SS from Auschwitz in a teacher, lecturer Alois Schulz.

Frankfurt am Main 1958: the "years of the economic miracle" in Germany. The population wants to look forward and forget the National Socialist past. When Thomas Gnielka, a journalist for the Frankfurter Rundschau, shows up at the Frankfurt public prosecutor's office with Auschwitz survivor Simon Kirsch, none of the officials want to take on the case: Simon Kirsch recognized a former member of the SS from Auschwitz in a teacher, lecturer Alois Schulz. Only the young prosecutor Johann Radmann looks into the matter. Radmann finds out that Schulz was actually in the Waffen-SS and served in Auschwitz. He concealed this fact when he was hired as a teacher; in fact, he would not allowed to teach children.
