Her flowery mural is fittingly located in Blooms Square in the city's arts district. The square is named after Joel Bloom, a pioneering activist who has done much to advocate for and shape the neighborhood's artist community. The unofficial mayor's tiny general store served as a sort of neighborhood’s town hall from 1994 until Bloom died of cancer in 2007. Hueman's mural is a tribute to Bloom – and also the first time she's incorporated type into her work.
My first mural in L.A. was only a block away, and I’ve had so many murals in this little area of the Arts District, and I just really wanted to give something back.
Allison Hueman
Hueman describes herself as a multidisciplinary artist and her style as "etherealism", ethereal realism. She cleverly combines naturalistic elements with abstraction. What appears to be a collage always comes together independently when viewed.
She alternates between exhibitions and the creation of public works and collaborates with some particularly credible global brands, including the Golden State Warriors, Adobe, Nike, Google, L'Oreal, Sony Music and many others.
