EUFF 2024: One Million Minutes
Presented by the Goethe-Institut Toronto & the Consulate General of Germany in Toronto
One Million Minutes (Germany 2024, 120 min)
by Christopher Doll, with Tom Schilling (Never Look Away), Karoline Herfurth (The Reader), and more
"Oh, Dad, I wish we had a million minutes. Just for the really nice things, you know?"
Vera and Wolf Küper lead a seemingly happy life in Berlin with their two young children, Nina and Simon. However, their underlying struggle to navigate their work and personal life finally shatters when they discover that their daughter suffers from a fine motor disorder. When Nina expresses a childlike wish to spend "a million minutes" with her parents, it sets the stage for a compelling and impulsive narrative: for a million minutes, 694 days, the family searches for an alternative lifestyle in various parts of the world. Based on a true story and novel by author Wolf Küper.
“A sensitively acted film about a family that longs for a life without stress” -- Spielfilm magazine
A Million Minutes marks Christopher Doll's promising directorial debut. Focusing on a young, ambitious academic couple, the film assumes a new perspective on relatable personal and professional dynamics
