How does cooperative, collaborative photographic work function? Over the past winter semester, students studying visual communication at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar explored possibilities of cooperation in photography as part of the project The cooperative portrait.

The objective of the course was to develop projects which divide the copyright of a portrait photo between two parties. The students chose their cooperation partners and worked in small groups or pairs. Various methods for joint image processing were discovered and tested; the medium of collage was used in particular. The principle of equality and solidarity among the cooperating partners played a key role.

Selected results were presented on postcards at the Kultursymposium Weimar. The format enabled visitors to collect parts of the exhibition and rearrange them in their homes.

With works by Jülide Nur Alemdar, Sarah Amar, Soum Eveline Bonkoungou, Franca Dümon, Marlene Rosa Flath, Daša Geiger, Jacob Heine, Marlen Lisbeth Hüllstrunk, Anneliese John, Elias Knochenhauer, Thyra Kolde, Liza Antonia Lippert, Camilo Londoño Hernández, Mathias Lorenz, Antonia Mang, Vanessa Mejía Cuevas, Luisa Ngoc Linh Pham, Richard Schött
