The independent Federal Anti-Discrimination Office (ADS) is a German authority. It provides assistance to anyone that has faced discrimination in seeking enforcement of their rights. Disadvantages may be racially motivated or based on ethnicity, gender, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual identity.
The ADS provides opportunities to take action within the legal framework for protection against discrimination, while also arranging consultations with other agencies.
Discrimination based on racism and ethnic origin is particularly common. Protections enshrined in the General Equal Treatment Act apply to all people, regardless of their residence status, even to refugees and newcomers. In particular, it includes employment, housing and services.
