“Kisah Kawal Dugong" (The Story of Kawal Dugong) is the first documentary about dugong made in Indonesia, specifically at Kawasan Konservasi Daerah, one of the regional conservation areas in Indonesia striving to improve the sustainable management of the Lesser Sunda Seascape is Selat Pantar Alor, or Regional Conservation Area in Selat Pantar Alor, East Nusa Tenggara. This region has a high level of biodiversity, including 7 species of seagrass, 11 families of mangroves, and 19 families of reef fish. Additionally, it is one of the key habitats for dugongs and serves as a corridor for the migration of marine megafauna species from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. Unfortunately, there are a number of threats in this area as well, including irresponsible marine tourism, bycatch, damaging fishing, and a lack of waste management for plastic. Lack of human resources, particularly among the younger generation, a lack of educational facilities, as well as a lack of guidelines on plans and strategies for managing marine areas, particularly in Eastern Indonesia, are some reasons why area management has not been effectively implemented. When it comes to protecting the ocean and the dugong in this region, Alor is actually teeming with kind- hearted individuals from all backgrounds and genders, in addition to guarding the ocean and dugong.
